Response to Waitangi Tribunal's Wai 3325 Climate Change Priority Inquiry

2 July 2026

The Commissioner received questions from the Waitangi Tribunal, regarding the Wai 3325 Climate Change Priority Inquiry, and provided a response. He described the work of his office in detail, referencing how Māori knowledge and perspectives are reflected in its environmental investigations, and that there is nothing preventing his role from incorporating te ao Māori, mātauranga Māori, and Treaty considerations into its work.

"Te ao Māori is an important source of information, knowledge and understanding of New Zealand's natural and physical environment."
