The Commissioner has written to the Prime Minister requesting to discuss how the proposed reorganisation of the Crown Research Institutes could affect environmental research.

In his letter, the Commissioner writes that environmental research is a critical part of the science and research system that informs almost all of what the Government does, yet its contribution seems to have been neglected in the reform decisions announced to date. He warns that if that continues to be the case, the Government’s ability to effectively manage large areas of the economy and society will be undermined.
