Importation of marron (Cherax tenuimanus): Investigation of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries approval procedures

An investigation to determine whether the existing legislation is adequate to deal with the proposal to import marron; that, in the case of marron, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries adequately applied its own policy guidelines on the importation of exotic species for aquaculture, and the Government's environmental protection and enhancement procedures; and that the decision to permit the importation of marron was reasonable given the advice available on the environmental risk posed by that species.
